Goodwin's sub genres

Goodwin's sub Genres.

Performance

This is where the artist or band will perform their song, this will often be done by metal core bands as instruments are more important to the videos than other genres such as pop, often there will be guitar or drum solos meaning an entire section of the video will be based around it unlike modern boy bands who don't play instruments and only sing. The example I have used for this is "If You Can't Hang" By Sleeping with Sirens where the entirety of the music video is the band performing their song.

Narrative

Narrative is a short film in the music video which will often go along to the music. Often this will be done by more pop bands and singers but is not uncommon amungst alternative rock bands. The example I have used for this is Ice Nine Kills cover of "Someone like you" in which the band acts in a short story about a dog.

Cameo

This is similar to narrative in the sense of it being a short story with the primary difference being that the band/singer does not appear performing at all. This once again is common amongst pop singers and boy/girl bands. The two examples I have for this are "A Team" and "Lego House" by Ed Sheeran, one of which is a celebrity cameo where the artist isn't show performing or in the video but a different celebrity does.

Dance routine

As the name suggests, this is when an artist or band performs a dance routine throughout the song, this is more common in the hip-hop genre. The example I'm using for this is Soulja Boy "Tell'em- Crank that"
